Salted caramel is a delicious and indulgent treat that has become increasingly popular in recent years. This sweet and savory combination is made by combining sugar, butter, and cream to create a rich, caramel-like sauce that is infused with a pinch of salt. The result is a flavor explosion that is both sweet and salty, making it the perfect complement to a wide variety of desserts and confections.
The origins of this sweet treat can be traced back to the early 19th century, when it was first introduced in France as a way to add flavor and depth to traditional caramel candy. The addition of salt was a natural choice, as it had been used for centuries to enhance the flavor of sweet treats. The combination of sugar, butter, and cream creates a rich, velvety texture that is both smooth and creamy. The salt adds a subtle hint of savoriness that cuts through the sweetness and brings out the natural flavors of the ingredients.
The recipe is so simple. All you need is sugar, butter, cream, and salt! The hardest part about this recipe is making sure you don’t burn the sugar. This requires a bit of patience although the sugar melts quickly.
The key to this recipe is to use high-quality ingredients and cook the caramel over low heat to prevent burning. The sugar should be heated slowly until it reaches a deep amber color, and then the butter and cream should be added. The mixture should be stirred constantly to prevent burning and to ensure that the ingredients are well blended. Once the caramel reaches the desired consistency, it should be removed from the heat and a pinch of salt should be added. The salt should be stirred in until it is fully dissolved, and then the caramel should be cooled before using.
After the sugar reaches a deep amber color, it’s removed from the heat and the butter and cream is added. The butter is added first, which results in the caramel basically screaming at you to hurry up and mix the butter in so it can be smooth again.
Adding the cream has a similar effect but doesn’t last as long. Once the cream is fully combined, add the salt. At this point, the caramel can be drizzled hot over your favorite dessert or you can wait for it to cool when the carmel is thicker consistency. Whatever you decide, you wont be disappointed.

I can never find nilla wafers that don’t have high fructose corn syrup in them & I haven’t gotten around to making them from scratch yet so I use a combination of cookies in my banana pudding. This time I used chessman cookies and vanilla sandwich cookies. After I made the banana pudding, I drizzled this perfect salted caramel all over it and refrigerated it. Doing this made caramel a little chewy and added another texture and flavor to the pudding.
Salted caramel can be enjoyed in many ways, from drizzling it over ice cream, to adding it to a latte, to making it into a sauce for savory dishes like steak. Many confectionery brands have also started selling salted caramel chocolate bars, and even candies, that are quite popular among people of all ages.
